Chapter 200 200 - Readings
Chapter 200 200 - Readings
As Ryan walked around his house, he was observed from afar. On the other side of the window, there was a girl with white wings floating in the sky with a face completely red with rage. Swinging her legs and punching the air, she complained about how she hadn\'t been chosen instead of Ayumi.
"Again and again! Why doesn\'t he pick me?" she shouted to herself, trying to remain undetected.
Ryan quickly turned to the window, and activating his Demon Sight, he searched for any clues. At the same moment, Lux disappeared from the sky.
\'Hmm, I thought I saw someone,\' said Ryan, who approached the window to analyze.
Looking at his cell phone, he began to think about the message he had received.
\'Maybe she can help me research global magic circles. That\'s not so bad,\' he concluded.
The sun was still high in the sky, with light winds and a warm climate. With a single leap, he launched himself out of the window. Ryan fell about five stories and then activated his demonic wings, flying with surprising speed towards the buildings in the southeast area of the Neodrazzil academy.
As Ryan flew around the area, he encountered several manticore and griffin pilots. This reminded him of an item that remained in his inventory.
\'If I keep it, the egg won\'t rot...\' Ryan concluded, but he couldn\'t help thinking about the possibility of having an obsidian eagle for himself. Just imagining the possibility of mastering such a powerful beast already got his mind racing.
The wind was calm, even though they were flying at high speed. \'I wonder what my life would be like if I could enjoy this kind of activity,\' Ryan thought.
Looking at the pilots having fun as they raced through the sky made him think back to when he was a kid, when he played soccer or skateboarded with friends.
*Sigh
Faced with the impossibility of having such an active and lively life, Ryan sighed in disappointment \'I think the only hobby I\'ll be able to continue doing is killing monsters,\' he thought.
In a way, he wanted to play some sport, to enjoy university life before the term inevitably ended.
After about fifteen minutes flying through the sky of the Neodrazzil academy, Ryan finally arrived where he needed to be. The research laboratory where Margareth Wright stayed. The building followed the basic architecture of Neodrazzil, with two columns supporting a pure marble ceiling.
The place was not exclusive to Professor Wright, but had several other uses. As soon as Ryan set foot in the building, he was greeted by stares from different students. Men and women, teachers and researchers, almost everyone was whispering or watching him.
With a tap on the shoulder, Ryan was surprised by a familiar person.
"Strange to see you here, Master," said Laila, with a gentle smile.
Placing his hand on the girl\'s chin, he leaned in for a kiss, "It\'s good to see you," he said after pulling away again. The two then walked inside together, while the number of glances only increased by the second.
"I\'m doing some research into domain magic and time manipulation," said Laila.
"That\'s surprising, any success so far?" Ryan asked.
Laila shook her head in denial, "I\'ve managed to prove the influence of mana flows on the time-space continuum.Domains are the influence of mana in space, but I need a more solid form if I want to control time"
\'It\'s not that uncommon to call paralyzing spells with names like Time Stop. But as far as I know, they\'re versions of gravitational magic....\' A click appeared in Ryan\'s mind, looking at Laila he said "Have you tried using gravitational magic in your studies? Gravity can influence time, so it\'s imaginable that if you connect it to a spell, your results will improve."
Laila\'s eyes widened, and with a slap to her face she shouted, "I hadn\'t thought of that!" The girl ran out of the room, turning only to wave at Ryan.
With a smile on his face, Ryan watched the girl run off. As he made his way through the building, it only took a few seconds for him to come across a gigantic iron gate. The two connected doors had a sign above them, written in elven and common human language.
"Advanced Magic Circle Laboratory" Next to the door was a small iron plaque "Researcher in Charge - Margareth Wright".
Scratching his neck, Ryan wondered whether to knock. There was no bell to ring, but the door opened before he could worry about it.
"I didn\'t think you\'d take so long, kid, but you\'re young, it\'s normal for that to happen," said the lady who opened the door, quickly pulling Ryan by the hand and leading him into the laboratory. The place consisted of an extensive research area with more than seven rooms.
The second floor was where the computers were. As soon as Ryan walked through the door, he was faced with a small corridor with two windows. On either side were small test rooms with wooden chairs and even microphones. Continuing down the corridor, he came across the computer area.
The place had more than forty machines, all of which were turned on while running programs linked to the research. "This is where a lot of the magic happens," said Margareth, "Oh, come here Amane," shouted the researcher.
Down the stairs came a girl who looked visibly tired. Her movements were slow and her face, although attractive, had huge dark circles under her eyes.
\'This girl needs to sleep,\' Ryan thought as he looked at her.
The girl then placed one of her hands on her stomach, and reciting a spell she created a golden magic circle in front of her palm. Within seconds she seemed more energized, as if all her tiredness had disappeared.
Amane then held out his hand to Ryan, "It\'s nice to meet you, your name is...?"
"This is Ryan Whitemane, I told you about him," said Margareth.
"Oh! That\'s right!" Said the girl as she brought her hand back, bowing she said "My name is Amane Yuisaki, but you can call me Amane"
"It\'s nice to meet you," Ryan replied.
Amane had purple eyes and dark green hair, she was wearing a black dress and a white coat over it. She didn\'t seem to have any Eastern features, which caught Ryan\'s attention a little.
Margareth then took Ryan by the hand and put Amane in charge of the work she was doing. The lady then began to explain how each part of the lab worked, which took several minutes.
The computers in the lab were always on, carrying out research into magic circles. Computers are better than people at understanding numbers and accounts, so they can create and understand how spells work through these machines.
Every second, the computer tested tens of hundreds of spells, including variations and tests that would take humans a long time. In addition, the machines also analyzed magic circles, which facilitated the development of new runes and utilitarian equipment.
The two test rooms on the side of the corridor served as a space to quickly test the magic circles.
However, Margareth said that this was only for testing the stability of the magic, as it wouldn\'t be very pleasant to cast a flame-throwing magic circle in such an enclosed space.
Upstairs there was a small library with a computer connected directly to the Neodrazzil Academy\'s information base, access to which even extended to the professors\' research papers, something that not even Olivia could access.
There were other test rooms, a coffee area, a conference table and various plants scattered around the laboratory.
"That sleeping girl is called Sophie," said Margareth, as she pointed to an Oni who was asleep in the middle of the meeting room. The girl was leaning over the table, her two horns scraping the wood.
"No mom, I don\'t want any more pickles... I don\'t like pickles," said the girl, who seemed to be having an interesting dream. The two walked slowly outside and then sat down at a table. "What did you think of my lab?" said the old witch.
Ryan crossed both arms, with a thoughtful face he said "It\'s an amazing place, but I still don\'t understand why you were so interested in my help"
Margareth then pulled from her pocket a piece of equipment that looked like a digital multimeter. "Do you know what that is?"
"Yes, it\'s a multimeter, it\'s used to understand electrical effects," said the boy.
The old witch shook her head, "No boy, that\'s a mana receiver. It\'s similar to a multimeter, but its function is different."
*Sigh*
The witch then held out the machine to Ryan, passing the equipment across the table. As soon as Ryan put his hand on it, the readings began to rise higher and higher.
The number grew higher and higher, by an astonishing amount.
