Chapter 256 - Which Dress
Chapter 256: Which Dress
“This one is a long dress, but the part below the knees is transparent. This can show off the young lady’s perfect legs and is much livelier than traditional dresses. We made this dress with the same technique as the last one, and the only difference is that the transparent part of the dress can change color when it is hit by different lights. This dress was inspired by Snow White’s dress. Have you seen it?” the shop assistant asked Tan Mo.
“I did.” Tan Mo nodded, not mentioning that she’d found Snow White’s story boring.
“I’m not sure if you remember this or not, but there’s one scene in it where Snow White dances with the prince and her dress changes colors,” the shop assistant explained. “Of course, it’s impossible to completely recreate that effect, but we came up with the solution by using lights and a special material that reacts to it.”
The shop assistant then took the other dress from her colleague and showed Tan Mo the way to the dressing room. “You can try both on and see which one you prefer.”
Since the others were clearly there to help Tan Mo try on her new attire, the shop assistant then served all the family members juices and snacks as they waited for Tan Mo to try on the clothes.
“Mrs. Wei, Mrs. Tan, do you want to look around while you wait?” the shop assistant asked with a smile.
“That’s a great idea!” Xiao Menghan nodded and pulled Xu Mingzhen up to go look around the store.
Even if they weren’t buying anything for themselves, the shop assistant would have no problem with them trying something on as they were frequent customers. It didn’t matter anyway as the dress that Tan Mo would buy was more than enough for them to make their sales target.
It didn’t take long for Tan Mo to come out of the changing room with the first dress, which was the one that mimicked the night sky.
The short dress just reached her knees, highlighting her long, slender legs..
With every step she took, the diamonds on the dress glittered as if they were the stars in the night sky.
The dress was a perfect match for her pale white skin.
“Ms. Tan, have you ever tried wearing high heels?” the shop assistant asked.
“No.” Tan Mo shook her head.
The shop assistant quickly went to grab a pair of heels and offered them to Tan Mo. “You’ll look better in the dress with high heels. Since it’s your first time wearing them, it’s better to get a pair that’s not too high. These are only two inches tall, so they should be fine. Why don’t you try them on?
As the shop assistant helped Tan Mo put on the heels, she continued to talk about them. “These are soft enough that you won’t feel them crushing your toes. Even if this is your first time wearing heels, you should be able to get used to them after walking a few steps. I’m guessing you’ll be attending a party or a dinner with the dress, right? There will be a lot of walking, and these will be comfortable enough for the occasion. They are of very high quality as well, so the high heels won’t change shape easily. Also, the back part is purposely made lower so that it won’t scratch your legs when you’re walking, but not so low that they will fall off when you walk.”
After putting the heels on, the shop assistant examined Tan Mo as she walked around and continued to explain, “These might seem a little tall at first, but after taking a few steps, you will get used to them and not feel like you are wearing a pair of high heels. Our heels are designed to be thin, but we can assure you they are sturdy enough. They are also designed to make sure that you won’t be exerting yourself when you walk and feel like you’re walking in a pair of flat shoes. Our motto is coexistence between beauty and comfort. These light-blue high heels perfectly match the dress you’re wearing now or even the other dress if you prefer that one.”
Tan Mo walked around the store as per the shop assistant’s suggestion and realized that even when she walked on the carpet, she didn’t feel like she was going to fall or slip.
“They look perfect!” Tan Mo exclaimed as she checked herself out in the mirror.
“Wait, you’re going to a red carpet event. You’ll get a cold if you wear this,” Wei Zhiqian said as if he thought the sleeveless short dress wouldn’t be enough to shield Tan Mo from the freezing January wind of B City.
“Zhiqian is right. It’ll be too cold.” Tan Wenci said, not wanting his daughter to catch a cold.
“Why don’t we tell the organizer that Mo Mo will just skip the red carpet and will be heading straight into the venue?” Tan Jinsheng suggested.
“What the heck are you guys talking about?’ Xu Mingzhen was shocked. Even though she also was worried that her daughter might catch a cold, as a woman, she knew how important it was for a young lady to look pretty, even if it meant making some sacrifices. “If it’s too cold, then she can just put some warm pads inside her dress when she walks the red carpet.”
Xu Mingzhen alone was enough to shut up the men of the Tan family, but Xiao Menghan also agreed with her friend. “Mingzhen’s right! Mo Mo has to appear gorgeous that day. Most of the cameras will be set up by the red carpet, and that’s the only time Mo Mo can shine. Once she’s inside, the cameras will mostly be focused on the actors and directors.”
The men couldn’t even find anything to argue about and obediently shut their mouths.
The shop assistant then approached Tan Mo and asked, “So, Ms. Tan, do you want to try another one? It’s also sleeveless, but it’s a long dress, and it would at least shield you from some wind.”
“Right. Mo Mo, why don’t you try it on and see which one looks better?” Xu Mingzhen nodded.
When Tan Mo walked out of the dressing room with the new dress on, the others were shocked by how much a dress could change a person.
The first one had a livelier feel to it, but the second one made Tan Mo look more like the daughter of a prestigious family.
The transparent part below the knees had a veil over it, making her look even more attractive.
As she spun around for the others to take a look, the transparent part of the dress changed into a new color with each turn.
“This is pretty also.” Xu Mingzhen and Xiao Menghan exclaimed at the same time and began to study the dress. “You look like an angel now.”
Tan Mo blinked. That had been her goal in her past life, to achieve a human form and become a celestial being. That was why she was happy when they called her an angel.
“Mo Mo, which one do you like?” Xu Mingzhen asked.
HMM. “I think both are pretty. Why don’t we just buy both and decide later?” Tan Wenci stood up and said.
