Chapter 775 - Little Traitor (1)
Chapter 775 - Little Traitor (1)
Three months later, Zhu Ziqian\' case was finally presented in court. Because he was involved in the premeditated accident of Tang Moyu and her siblings, leading to Tang Beixuan\'s death, his offense was heavier— plus the fact that he kidnapped two women recently. Of course, Tang Moyu and Feng Tianyi didn\'t dare to miss and witness it and attended personally.
There was no way in hell they would miss it as they were both hoping that this would stop Zhu Ziqian\'s madness once and for all. However, the man had been mum about who had kept and helped him during the months of his absence. When he was asked, he denied that there was someone else beside him who wanted to kill Tang Moyu.
He Lianchen joined them and sat next to Feng Tianyi. He pushed the bridge of his eyeglasses and regarded the power couple. Seated next to each other, it was impossible for anyone not to notice the two beautiful and domineering people within the court.
"Why did you come?" He Lianchen asked his friend. As Feng Tianyi\'s legal advisor, this was something he could do on his own, so there was no need for Feng Tianyi to come here to see the trial himself.
"To see the fate of the wicked." Feng Tianyi\'s words were full of ridicule as he watched Zhu Ziqian being dragged to face the judge.
He Lianchen sighed at his words and decided to turn a blind eye. Since he knew Feng Tianyi for a long time, he also knew how he doted upon Tang Moyu excessively. It was clear that the empress was the one who wanted to come here and not Feng Tianyi.
When the man was presented in court, it was obvious that Zhu Ziqian had lost his arrogance after being caught by the authorities. His head was down and he\'d been looking around nervously as if someone would pounce on him any given time.
Tang Moyu drew her brows together in confusion as she didn\'t quite understand how the arrogant and crazy man who dared try to kill her months ago had turned into a weakling under a short span of time. His appearance didn\'t change, but his entire demeanor did. He was clearly not the same man she\'d met before.
If she thought Zhu Ziqian was already mad before, seeing him today made her think that he had truly lost his mind as he kept mumbling incoherent words to himself. He looked desperate and scared at the same time. Tang Moyu knew that these were signs of trauma, but it still baffled her how Zhu Ziqian turned out like this.
"What happened to him?" she asked her husband, but Feng Tianyi only shrugged and didn\'t say anything in return.
Feng Tianyi, of course, knew the answer, but he wasn\'t willing to come clean to his wife and tell her the underhanded tricks he\'d done to Zhu Ziqian after he was caught. Tang Moyu would surely disapprove of his ways. He was also keeping an eye on who would visit Zhu Ziqian to get a clue about who had corroborated with the man to harm his wife.
It\'s been three months, but the other person refused to show up and let his identity be known. Well, Feng Tianyi and He Lianchen had already expected this might happen, but they still couldn\'t let go of the chance, in case the person got reckless and did something that would give him away— threatening or trying to silence Zhu Ziqian while in prison, for example.
Feng Tianyi wouldn\'t be able to lower his guard completely until they knew the identity of that person. There\'s already a huge chance that the person had removed all clues that would give him away. They would all remain in danger until that person too was caught or his identity would come to light.
Still, with Zhu Ziqian finally caught, their lives were slowly going back to normal—at least a little bit less tense compared to when the madman was still at large. Their little buns were able to attend school now, much to their excitement. Tang Moyu still kept her bodyguards with her as a precaution. Despite the peaceful days following Zhu Ziqian\'s arrest, they all knew that it was only temporary.
The hearing didn\'t take too much time and the judge had passed the verdict to Zhu Ziqian\'s case immediately. Zhu Ziqian panicked the moment he heard that he was given a life sentence as punishment instead of receiving the capital punishment he was hoping for.
"No… no! This couldn\'t be!" he exclaimed hysterically. He would rather choose death than to stay alive being tortured mentally behind bars. However, his pleas were ignored, and he was dragged away to start his sentence.
Although his crime of intentional homicide should be punished by death penalty, the judge had decided to give him a life imprisonment instead much to Tang Moyu\'s satisfaction. As she said, allowing Zhu Ziqian to die was an easy way out, but she never expected that the judge would give such a verdict and had surprised her.
Did her husband pull some strings again to make sure the decision would be what she wanted? There were still things that she didn\'t know about Feng Tianyi and how influential he was in the underworld, but Tang Moyu didn\'t think she was quite ready yet to delve into her husband\'s past.
Tang Moyu was pleased with today\'s outcome. As she watched Zhu Ziqian, begging the judge to overturn his sentence and switch to capital punishment, the empress neither felt joy nor resentment against the man who caused her brother\'s death. Just like what Li Meili said, Beixuan would never be able to return to them regardless.
"Let\'s go. We\'ve seen enough," she heard Feng Tianyi say before standing up, offering a hand for her to take.
Tang Moyu looked at him, and then at the hand he presented to her before placing hers on it. The two acted like bystanders. They only came to see the outcome of the trial, nothing more.
With justice finally served, Tang Moyu could finally bid goodbye to her younger brother and resume her life with her family without a heavy heart.
