Chapter 40: Signing a contract
Chapter 40
"This company was co-founded by me and some friends. The offices ahead are for us few partners. That\'s my office, those are the lounges where we sometimes sleep when working late, and that\'s the storage room for office supplies," Jiang You explained to Ling Yue as they walked.
"This is the conference room. They\'re all waiting to meet you inside," said Jiang You as he opened the door.
The chatting young people turned their heads toward the entrance upon hearing the sound. Seeing Jiang You entering with Ling Yue, their gazes fell on her, filled with curiosity, inquiry, astonishment, and disbelief.
They knew the investor of their company was a woman, but she was completely different from what they had imagined. Ling Yue wore a simple T-shirt and jeans, with a cap covering her head. Apart from her eyes, her face was concealed behind a mask. However, those eyes were beautiful, with long, curled, dense black lashes, and a brilliant, starry gaze that seemed to flow with a hint of mystery.
Jiang You guided Ling Yue to the main seat as his gaze swept over the seated crowd. "Let me introduce her to you all. This is Ling Yue, our investor and also our boss. Let\'s welcome her with a round of applause."
Applause erupted. A slight smile appeared in Ling Yue\'s phoenix eyes. "Thank you, everyone! I\'m delighted to become one of you, and let\'s work together to create a brilliant future."
Another round of applause followed, with everyone\'s eyes reflecting eagerness toward Ling Yue. She exuded an innate persuasive aura that seemed to demand obedience, even though her appearance was concealed, those eyes alone compelled submission.
"Ms. Ling! Here\'s the contract, please have a look," said Jiang You, handing Ling Yue the pre-prepared contract.
Ling Yue took the contract, carefully scanned the contents, nodded, and unhesitatingly signed her name. Her calligraphy was bold and powerful, radiating an imperious air.
Jiang You\'s eyes flickered, his admiration for Ling Yue growing. As the saying went, one\'s calligraphy reflected their character, and from Ling Yue\'s signature, he could tell she was no ordinary person.
After putting down her pen, Ling Yue returned the contract to Jiang You.
Jiang You smiled as he collected the contract. "Ms. Ling! Let me introduce everyone: Zhang Tao, Xu Mo, Liang Yifeng, Yang Zheng, Hu Yunhua, and Zhang Xun."
Ling Yue nodded and smiled at them. She had heard from Jiang You the previous day that his company was established by him and several young people sharing the same dream, believing that one day, the internet would change the world.
After a brief meeting during which Ling Yue transferred funds to the company\'s account, she said, "I won\'t participate much in the company\'s decisions. Jiang You will remain in charge of the company\'s affairs." She simply wanted to be a hands-off investor.
After the meeting, Jiang You brought Ling Yue back to his office and told her about the previous day\'s events. "Ms. Ling, do you still have that talisman? Could you give me two more?"
Ling Yue seemed not to have heard Jiang You\'s words as her fingers lightly tapped on the desk. "Do you think the first incident was an accident or deliberate?"
Jiang You pondered for a moment. "It was probably Yukihiko Oda\'s doing. He wanted to invest in my company, but I refused, so he tried to get rid of me." Recalling the previous day\'s events still made him shudder. If not for the talisman Ling Yue had given him, he might not be in this world anymore.
"So, what do you plan to do about him?" Ling Yue raised her eyebrows as she looked at Jiang You. If it were her, she would never give her enemy another chance to harm her.
Jiang You contemplated for a while. "Of course, I don\'t want any involvement with him. If possible, I hope never to see him again."
Ling Yue smiled faintly. "Then follow your heart and don\'t give him another chance."
Jiang You paused briefly. "You mean to make him disappear from this world, but how should I do that?" He also wanted Yukihiko Oda to vanish, but he had no power or influence. How could he deal with Yukihiko Oda?
Ling Yue tapped on the keyboard. "Your technical skills should be decent, right?"
Jiang You\'s eyes lit up. "I understand." He had interacted with Yukihiko Oda a few times and always felt that Yukihiko Oda was not a simple businessman.
Ling Yue gave Jiang You an approving look before standing up to make way for him.
Jiang You opened his computer and rapidly typed on the keyboard. Soon, he found information related to Yukihiko Oda and carefully examined it. "He\'s indeed not a simple businessman." As he had suspected, Yukihiko Oda had an agenda for coming to Xia Country.
He emailed the information to the relevant authorities, believing they would not sit idly after seeing Yukihiko Oda\'s background. Even if they couldn\'t sanction him, deporting him back to his country was certain.
"Thank you, Ms. Ling!" Jiang You stood up and gratefully bowed to Ling Yue. Without her, not only himself but also the company would have been in jeopardy.
Ling Yue handed Jiang You a talisman. "I estimate Yukihiko Oda will still try to harm you, so don\'t let your guard down." She noticed the black aura on Jiang You\'s forehead had not dissipated but had instead become denser.
Jiang You excitedly accepted the talisman. "I won\'t be careless. May I ask where this talisman was bought? I\'d like to get a few more."
"I made them myself. It\'s getting late, so I\'ll be going." Ling Yue glanced at the clock on the wall before heading out. She had promised Mrs. Xu that she would return for lunch.
"Someone will be sending over a lunch box soon. Eat first before leaving," said Jiang You, hoping to spend more time with Ling Yue.
"No need, maybe next time." Ling Yue shook her head in refusal.
"Then let me walk you out."
Jiang You escorted Ling Yue out of the company and watched her figure gradually disappear into the crowd before slowly turning his gaze away. Meeting Ling Yue was truly his good fortune.
As he turned to head back to the company, a voice called out to him.
Jiang You paused and saw that the caller was a scholarly-looking young man, accompanied by another person who exuded an air of importance, suggesting a significant identity.
