Chapter 135 Lament Of The Souls (3)
The words that escaped the girl\'s lips were foreign to Kyran. Even the melody she sang sounded like an ancient song.
However, the more Kyran listened to it, the more he felt as if he had heard it before, and he felt nostalgic. It filled his very core, and the excruciating pain he usually felt whenever he summoned a fissure lifted.
The two mutated Basilisk also stopped struggling, which made it easier for him to absorb both.
"Agh!"
The girl suddenly coughed out a mouthful of blood, spraying it all over Kyran and abruptly ending her song.
The pain that Kyran thought had disappeared returned. While the two mutated, Basilisk slowly awoke from their dazed state.
However, the girl stubbornly held on and once again opened her lips.
As soon as her song filled the air once more, the pain and pressure on Kyran were lifted again.
However, he saw the edge of the girl\'s glowing white eyes slowly turn red. And tears which he realized were blood, started to seep down the corner of her eyes.
It dawned on Kyran that this girl\'s song was putting a lot of strain on her already frail body and probably mind. If she continued singing, it might endanger her life.
"Stop now!" Kyran told the girl.
Still, the girl did not stop.
At this moment, the fissures finally succeeded in absorbing the two mutated Basilisks, and the crack Kyran felt in his core slowly stabilized. However, the immense magic fluctuation still lingered in the air as the girl continued with her song.
Kyran immediately released the two fissures, and he took off the girl\'s hand, which held his face.
"I said stop!" Kyran said while giving the girl a little shake.
As if snapping out of a trance, the girl finally stopped singing, and her glowing white eyes, which had a red tint on the edges, returned to their normal color.
The magic fluctuations in the air dissipated, and the whole cave fell into silence.
For a moment, the two of them remained still.
Even the girl gaped at Kyran as if she could see him.
"You-."
"How come you... don\'t have it...?"
The girl asked in a voice Kyran barely heard before her eyes closed, and her body went limp as she fell straight into his arms.
"Huh?" Kyran asked with a slight frown. "What do you mean? What is it that I don\'t have?"
However, the girl remained still.
She had already lost consciousness.
Kyran stared at the girl in his arms. If not for her even breathing, Kyran might have thought she died.
\'No, that\'s not the point here!\' Kyran scolded himself.
He knew the girl had secrets, and her abilities to see lights were not simple. But he never expected to see more of her secret at this point. He even thought the girl would hesitate to reveal more about herself until he gained her trust.
\'But that song... is it kind of magic? But she did not summon any arrays....\'
An idea flashed through Kyran\'s mind, and his scalp went numb.
There was no way that could happen, right? It was absurd and too coincidental.
\'Impossible,\' Kyran still rejected the idea as he stared at the unconscious girl in his arms.
But he could not deny that there were lingering magic fluctuations in the air, which proved that the girl did use magic.
And she did without using a magic array.
\'Ancient magic?\' Kyran thought.
If this was the case, then this girl\'s magic was... Soul Magic?
Kyran slowly sat crossed-legged on the ground, moving the girl\'s body to a much better position.
\'The light she sees... could it be \'souls\'?\' He wondered. \'Then when she said I don\'t have it... did she mean I don\'t have a \'light\'?\'
It was possible. It also answered how the girl did not react the first time she saw him.
But, if the light she meant was souls, then.
\'No way. I mean I am alive so I do have a soul... Or do I?\'
Black lines appeared on Kyran\'s head.
What was he even thinking? Of course, he had a soul.
Then he remembered the girl could also see arrays.
\'Wait. Don\'t jump to conclusions yet. She saw the array. I\'m sure of it. And arrays had magic in them. So maybe the light she sees are magic, and what she did earlier is not soul magic but... A unique ability?\'
Some people were born with unique abilities. One good example was Dante, who had a rare ability to multi-cast.
Taking a deep breath, Kyran settled on that thought for now. Because he only read a few things about rare abilities, and he was not knowledgeable of their manifestation or limitation. There was no point in dwelling on a subject he did not know the answer to.
\'I\'ll have to ask Nolan about it,\' he decided and looked at the girl in his arms once again.
His gaze softened, remembering how she insisted on using her ability to help him. He was no fool. The girl did that because she wanted to help him.
Earlier, Kyran had a crazy notion of training the girl and making use of her. But after what just happened, he changed his mind.
Apart from this, the song she sang just now was too pure, and Kyran was afraid of corrupting her.
Kyran took out a bottle of energy replenishing potion and stamina potion.
With a sigh, he downed the two potions before returning the empty bottles to his pouch.
To think that he had to consume potions so early in the day. It was only a bottle each, but he probably had to buy more in town.
\'Or I can get more when I transport the Theirhorns,\' he thought.
The truth, Kyran was not really short on energy replenishing potions and stamina potions, but the ones he initially had with him were high-grade ones, and he wanted to save them for emergency use.
\'I will ask Chairman Malia or Avrum to teach me how to concoct those two potions to save money in the future,\' Kyran decided.
For the next few minutes, he cleaned himself and the girl off their blood. When he was done, he gently shifted the girl and settled her on his back before leaving the cave.
Though it was not exactly nice, Kyran was glad the girl was too skinny and weighed less, which would not hinder his pace going west.
==================
The sun had already risen when Kyran arrived at a town named Hanaan. This town was located at the edge of Darwick City, a medium-sized city west of Bearch City.
Hanaan Town had a population of almost 1,200, and it was relatively the same size as Tarrin.
Some stores and outside stalls were already open while people walked along the path to buy or simply look at the items on display.
Kyran entered the town without drawing much attention. Right now, he was using Nar\'s face and did not bother covering it. Because he knew his appearance was below average and would not stand out among the crowd. Even while carrying a girl on his back, most people only saw him as a doting big brother.
He walked at the side of the street looking for an inn. He was not exhausted, but he was thinking of leaving the girl here while he continued on his task. For now, he planned to rent the room for a few days and instruct the owner of the inn to deliver some food during meal times for the girl.
Growl...
Kyran\'s brow twitched.
The growling sound was too familiar and timely, in his opinion. However, the culprit who made the sound was still unconscious. It amazed him how the little body behind him could make such a loud sound.
While Kyran searched for an inn, it occurred to him that he still did not know the girl\'s name.
\'I better ask her when she wakes up,\' he decided.
After all, it was a little rude to call her \'oi\' or \'you\'.
It took Kyran a quarter of an hour to find an inn that also offers food service. He did not tell the owner about his arrangements yet because he had to talk to the girl first.
The room he rented was located on the second floor at the end of the hall. It was considered a deluxe room with two single beds and a bathroom.
There was a small table that separated the two beds. And two wooden chairs with a round table was placed by the window.
Kyran nodded his head after seeing the room. This room was enough for the girl to live in for a few days.
He entered the room and closed the door before taking the girl on the bed near the door.
Then he went over to the other bed and took out a parchment and a pen.
For the next few minutes, Kyran busied himself listing the things he had to buy in town.
