Chapter 23 - Go find a piece of wood and plug him in to light the sky lantern
Beneath the billowing black mist, a tumultuous roar resounded. Uncountable malevolent spirits and zombies surged forth. The island swiftly became enshrouded in the dark haze. Instantaneously, anguished cries echoed all around.
Airborne zombies were saturated with sinister spirits, yearning for fresh flesh and blood. The outcome of their paired fusion was no laughing matter.
It vastly surpassed the capabilities of ordinary soul-refining streamers. Wu Ping was utterly furious this time around. Wu Ping had no qualms about aiming to be the demon among demons. Even if he sought to challenge the heavens, he was undeterred.
However, This person should not have implicated him in this mess!
These innocent people had no conflicts of interest with him.
Why did he have to bear the blame?
Wu Ping received this task from these people but refrained from killing them, as it was too troublesome. Not to mention the meagre output of raw souls, their quality left much to be desired. Furthermore, he had never even encountered this person before. He hadn’t seen them at all. It was a raw deal.
Did they truly think Wu Ping was a pushover? Anyone could give him a good squeeze. He Jun observed the terrifying scene unfolding in the sky.
His heart was jolted!
A billowing black cloud, with ghostly figures covering the entire expanse!
When had he offended such an individual?
Confronting the onslaught of evil spirits and zombies, Jun raised his hand to defend himself. Yet, the slaughter seemed endless. These evil spirits were not run-of-the-mill soul-refining products and couldn’t be dispatched casually. Nearly all of them were formidable foes.
“Dare I ask where the Taoist friend hails from? I am He Jun of the Baishan Sect, and He Baishan is my father!”
“If I have offended you, Taoist friend, please pardon me. After acquiring this magical power, I, He Jun, am willing to offer it as a gift.”
Evading the attacks of evil spirits, He Jun shouted towards the heavens.
“I’m Wu Ping, damn it! You take the blame for my deeds and don’t even recognise me. Have some guts, don’t babble nonsense. Today, I’ve declared that if you light the sky lantern, I’ll light it with you!”
“You’ll meet your end today. What I say is no easy task for your father to resolve!”
“Tyrant, seize him for me!”
A dense black mist converged around Wu Ping, forming a fearsome figure standing four meters tall. Clad in dark armour with a complexion of deep blue, his eyes burned a blood-red hue. This was Wu Ping, who had refined the tyrant’s soul to become the leader of the evil spirits.
“Roar!”
Under a thunderous roar, the ghosts retreated. The tyrant leapt high and descended with a mighty blow.
In the blink of an eye, he reached He Jun. A formidable punch, accompanied by a chilling wind, descended. Witnessing the unavoidable strike, He Jun covertly activated a technique, summoning a golden light that enveloped him and erected a protective barrier against the tyrant’s punch.
Boom!
The tyrant lacked spiritual wisdom but possessed sheer strength. When it realised that one punch was ineffective, it delivered ten and then a hundred!
This was the master’s command!
Boom, boom, boom, boom…
A barrage of fists rained down on the golden barrier like a storm. Although This barrier shielded He Jun, the recoil force made him exceedingly uncomfortable.
Pleading for mercy, he said, “Wu Ping, we have no grudges between us. I’m unfamiliar with this water village. The rumours were spread by these water bandits. Please, have your malevolent spirits cease their attacks. I’d like the chance to explain myself!”
Now, He Jun could no longer boast of being the demon among demons in the face of this terrifying commander-in-chief evil spirit. He was left utterly speechless. Where did Wu Ping find such a soul? It was unexpectedly towering. It must be an individual with a special physique caught by Wu Ping and refined into the commander-in-chief of the evil spirits! Curse his luck. Why didn’t he have such a fate?
“Am I here to reason with you today? Your nonsense excuses, a mouthful of explanations—keep them to yourself and go to hell to tell Hades. Tyrant, haven’t you eaten? Smash him hard and shake him to death!” Ablaze with anger, Wu Ping cared little for He Jun’s explanations. Whether he knew anything or not, useless talk had no place on this island.
“Wu Ping, don’t deceive people too much. My father is He Baishan, a monk in the soul realm, and I have an irrevocable relationship with that Wu Kongsheng!”
He Jun appeared miserable, blood flowing from his nose, mouth, eyes, ears, and other places. This startled the tyrant. With no other option, He Jun pulled out his father’s and Wu Kongsheng’s banners, hoping to sway Wu Ping’s decision. Perhaps there was some shared origin between the two Wus?
However, Wu Ping was in no mood for such considerations. He overturned He Jun from the cloud head with a direct motion. He Jun’s face lit up momentarily, thinking Wu Ping might show mercy. He hastily added, “I have plenty of valuable items. I can offer you anything—spirit stones, silver tickets, beautiful women—whatever you desire, just spare my life!”
His excitement turned into bewilderment as Wu Ping pulled the tyrant aside instead of showing mercy and approached He Jun. The air whistled as Wu Ping’s hand moved swiftly.
Boom!
The golden barrier shattered instantly into faint golden lights, and He Jun, spitting out blood, collapsed to the ground.
“Trash, this paper-like thing can’t withstand a thing.” The tyrant stood silent with its head bowed, not daring to speak or move.
Wu Ping lifted He Jun, tore off the storage bag around his waist and tossed it aside. “Nibble it from the bottom, tear it carefully. If it kills you in one go, I’ll kill all of you.”
Countless zombies and evil spirits encircled them, screams echoing. Wu Ping glanced at the bloody tree on the mountain of corpses. He Jun had likely slaughtered the water township for miles just to nurture this thing.
Waving his hand, the tyrant brought He Jun, who had lost his hands and feet, before Wu Ping. There was still blood at the corner of the tyrant’s mouth. Wu Ping motioned to put He Jun away, feeling somewhat irritated.
“Let me ask you, what is this thing for?” Wu Ping pointed to a small tree nearby.
“I…” Before He Jun could respond, the tyrant covered his mouth, preventing him from speaking.
Wu Ping chuckled at the sight. “Alright, you seem quite temperamental. I won’t ask them. I’m a man of my word. Spit out a nail, say you’ll light the sky lantern, and you just light the sky lantern. Go find a piece of wood and stick him in.”
