Chapter 68: 【68】This Mr. Shen is really a great philanthropist!_1

“Yeah, my dad will definitely like it.”

Although the two hadn’t coordinated their story beforehand, her response was incredibly smooth, instantly slipping into the role of a wife.

After speaking, she couldn’t help but internally criticize how this guy was taking advantage of her.

Why did he have to call her “wife”? Why not “sister” or “boss”?

Forget it, let him take advantage for now; she’d settle the score with him later.

Wang Xiaodao’s gaze lingered on the pair only briefly before moving back to the pottery jar in his hands, without harboring any suspicions about their identities.

Tang Feng and Qin Yanan both heaved a sigh of relief at the same time.

It was no wonder Wang Xiaodao was renowned as a cunning thief. His eyes were incredibly sharp, and being watched by him felt like being targeted by a venomous snake.

“Wife, this is my first time meeting our dad. Do you think he’ll like me?” Tang Feng wrapped an arm around Qin Yanan as they passed behind Wang Xiaodao, clearly not yet out of character.

Qin Yanan turned her head and glared at him, her mouth moving silently a few times. Judging by her lip shape, she seemed to be saying, “Isn’t this enough? Still taking advantage?”

A teasing smile curled at the edge of Tang Feng’s lips, “Wife, why aren’t you answering? Is there something you can’t say? Do you think our dad will look down on me for being poor?”

Qin Yanan was so annoyed she gritted her teeth. If she didn’t respond, it would certainly arouse Wang Xiaodao’s suspicion.

“No way. Although you’re just a toad who managed to dine on swan meat, our family hails from scholarly roots and would never look down on you.” Her words carried a warning, probably wanting the guy to cool it and stop messing around.

“It’s not so certain though. As the old saying goes, the most virtuous are often butchers, while the heartless are educated men. The more scholarly a family is, the more likely they are to be contemptuous,” Tang Feng retorted with veiled criticism in his words.

“Who are you calling contemptuous? You’re asking for it, aren’t you?” Qin Yanan was instantly enraged, having forgotten they were in the midst of acting, and reached out to pinch the soft flesh of his waist.

“Ouch, help! She’s murdering her own husband…”

Tang Feng quickly dodged.

Qin Yanan, still relentless, chased after him to pinch him again.

At this moment, the two indeed resembled a quarrelsome couple.

Wang Xiaodao, watching their playful tussle, couldn’t help but curse under his breath, “Flaunting love, quick to die.”

The stall owner sitting across from him glanced disapprovingly, “What kind of way is that to speak? Aren’t the young couple so affectionate? Why can’t you wish people well?”

Wang Xiaodao placed the jar back on the stall and dusted the dirt off his hands, “I’ll say what I like, is it any of your business?”

The stall owner, a straightforward person, retorted, “I just think you’re not decent. Just because you can’t find a partner, you wish for others to break up? The classic case of sour grapes.”

“I just am sour about those grapes; what’s it to you? Looking for a slap, are you?” Wang Xiaodao seemed poked in a sore spot and glared at him viciously.

Those sharp eyes made the stall owner’s heart quiver, and he dared not say another word.

“Busybody dog trying to catch mice,” Wang Xiaodao muttered aggressively and stormed off.

To tell the truth, he was indeed very envious of that kid just now.

He had been engaged in thievery since he was around twelve or thirteen and had never seriously been in a romantic relationship.

At most, after pulling off a heist, he would go to a bath center to take care of his physiological needs.

Looking at the couples on the street, he couldn’t help but sigh.

It seemed, after this score, it was time to settle down and enjoy life for a while.

He strolled along Antique Street, stopping here and there, and soon arrived at the entrance of an antique shop.

The shop’s signboard read “Lingxiu Residence” and its doors were wide open, with customers occasionally coming in and out.

He sat down on the steps, pretending to rest while sneakily peering inside the store.

Meanwhile, Tang Feng and Qin Yanan were observing him from a distance.

“Why has he stopped moving?” Qin Yanan squatted in front of a stall, holding a jade pendant as a disguise.

“He must be scoping the place out,” Tang Feng surmised, having immediately thought of the scenes he had seen in movies.

Before making a move, those skilled thieves would scout the location, planning their escape route in advance.

“What? Is he targeting Lingxiu Residence?” Qin Yanan suddenly exclaimed, forgetting all about her disguise.

Seeing her change in expression, Tang Feng grew curious, “Is this Lingxiu Residence well-known?”

Qin Yanan quickly nodded, “Of course. The shop’s owner, Shen Tianyan, is quite famous in the Zhonghai Antique Circle and is a highly respected elder.”

Tang Feng fiddled with a jade hairpin and inquired nonchalantly, “What’s Mr. Shen’s reputation like?”

“Why are you asking about this?” Qin Yanan glanced at him curiously.

“If he’s not a good man, then we shouldn’t meddle in their business and just let them fight amongst themselves,” Tang Feng stated confidently.

Qin Yanan couldn’t help but roll her eyes, but still patiently explained.

“Mr. Shen is a very good person, known in the Zhonghai Antique Circle as a great philanthropist. Actually, with the money he has earned over the years, he could have turned Lingxiu Residence into a top-tier antique brand. Yet now, it’s only a modest shopfront. Do you know why?”

This piqued Tang Feng’s curiosity, “Why?”

Qin Yanan glanced at the Lingxiu Residence signboard, her gaze filled with undisguised respect, “Because Mr. Shen spends the money he earns on building schools. And it’s not just about providing funds either—he oversees the scouting for school locations, supervises the construction of school buildings, and even recruits teachers himself…”

Tang Feng’s expression grew more and more astonished, “Listening to you, Mr. Shen really sounds like a great philanthropist!”

He knew quite a few business owners who spent money on building schools, but most of them just donated money and left others to handle it.

Simply a small price to pay for some good PR.

However, Mr. Shen’s hands-on approach in every aspect signified that he was not just showboating but genuinely committed to charity work.

“Damn, that son of a bitch has no humanity, targeting such a philanthropist.”

He glanced at Wang Xiaodao, who was still scouting the store, and couldn’t help but curse.
