Chapter 348: Special
Chapter 348: Special
This girl was quite common – she only needed jewelry. Well, as long as she did not ask for anything beyond that, then all would be fine.
Duke North’s Mansion was economically supported by the yearly payment from the court, but for Chen’s sake, all would work out fine. There were still some jewels kept in the storage, and she had many dowries too. She did not have a daughter to marry off, so she could simply use the doweries to pay this girl back for saving her son’s life.
As she thought about this, Mrs. Duke North suddenly felt unloaded. She let out a sigh of relief. “Don’t worry Lady Chaoyan, when Chen gets better and returns to Duke North’s Mansion, I will get the jewelry delivered to Yellow Crane instantly.”
Mrs. Duke North sounded polite, but actually, she was showing distance between them.
Gu Chaoyan was feeling quite complicated. She could understand why Mrs. Duke North had been so discreet – her husband passed away ages ago, and she, as a single mother, was supporting the whole mansion throughout the years. She was afraid of being set up, so she was playing a very discreet card, fearing that she would make a huge mistake that cost her beyond repair.
However, she was still very angry because she was misunderstood!
“Okay.” Gu Chaoyan nodded briefly. “If there is nothing else, I am leaving.”
“Okay.” Mrs. Duke North had another strange expression on her face. She had thought that the conversation would be difficult – a lady with a low social status saved a Young Duke, and she should have taken the opportunity of gaining what she desired. But what she asked for was nothing more than jewelry. Was she playing hard to get, or was she planning on something else?
Mrs. Duke North could not fathom the situation. However, no matter whether she did understand what was going on, Gu Chaoyan already left.
Mrs. Duke North finally took a sip of the tea on the table, which had turned cool, to calm herself down. Then she adjusted her clothes and walked out of the room. Gu Chaoyan was already gone, so she thought for a while and decided to visit her son.
The Young Duke was lying in bed, reading.
At the sight of his mother, he put down the book and looked at his mother, asking gently, “What is it?”
He heard that his mother wanted a word with Lady Chaoyan, but he had no idea what the conversation was about.
It must have been related to him. He normally did not care about what happened, yet this time, he was curious. He suddenly had a silhouette crossing his mind. The silhouette was dressed in a plain-looking white blouse, and felt his pulse. And what impressed him most deeply, was when he felt that he was at the verge of dying, a cold and calm voice was stressing by his side. “Hold on!”
That silhouette was nobody other than Lady Chaoyan. He felt that Lady Chaoyan seemed to be someone quite special.
Mrs. Duke North, who had been feeling a bit guilty about what she did, suddenly was assured. She had thought that she might have made a mistake earlier, but now she was even more assured that she had made the right decision.
Chen was considering that girl as someone special.
