Chapter 53: Luring Ye Fan

They zipped around the city\'s perimeter, Xiangyi\'s Flying Sword effortlessly navigating the uneven terrain.  Their focus was twofold – assessing the battlefield and prepping the stage.  The ideal location needed to offer strategic advantages while accommodating their array formations.

Xiangyi\'s fingers twitched, clearly itching to unleash her expertise in formations.  "Think these rocky outcrops would be good for a restrictive array?" she suggested, eyeing a cluster of jagged boulders.

Wang Li shook his head.  "Too obvious, Xiangyi.  If Ye Fan sees an array setting up, he\'ll sniff out a trap a mile away."  His smirk held a touch of mischief.  "We need him to feel confident, like he has the upper hand."

With that in mind, they continued their reconnaissance, their banter providing a light counterpoint to the seriousness of their mission.  Finally, they settled on a clearing – a flat, open expanse devoid of trees or obstacles.

"This looks good," Xiangyi nodded, her keen eyes scanning the surrounding area.  "Now, where can we hide Qingwu?"

"Remember," Wang Li said, his voice low, "her location is critical. It needs to be properly concealed, yet offer a clear view for the Vision Recording Stone."

Their eyes scanned the surrounding terrain. Gorges, rocky outcrops, even a lone, gnarled tree were all considered and dismissed.  The risk of discovery was too high.  Finally, Xiangyi let out a triumphant whoop.

"There!" she pointed.  "Behind that waterfall."

Nestled within a rocky crevice, hidden by the cascading curtain of water, was a narrow cave.  The perfect vantage point for an unseen observer.

A wave of relief washed over Wang Li.  "Brilliant," he said, squeezing Xiangyi\'s shoulder.  "With Qingwu there to capture everything, Ye Fan won\'t be able to weasel his way out of this."

The excitement, however, was laced with a touch of apprehension.  Their plan was ingenious, but Ye Fan was no fool.  Would their scheme be enough to lure him out?  Would they finally silence the lies and regain some semblance of normalcy?  These questions lingered in the air as they settled into their makeshift camp, the weight of their gamble heavy on their shoulders.

The next two days were a nerve-wracking waiting game.  They maintained a safe distance from the city, cultivating and refining their strategies.

While they did, they anxiously awaited Qingwu\'s arrival.  They had sent a communication talisman earlier, outlining the plan and instructing her to meet them at their chosen location.

Finally, on the evening of the second day, as the horizon bled into shades of orange and purple, a familiar figure emerged from the distance.  It was Qingwu, accompanied by a contingent of Xia Family guards.

"Qingwu!" Wang Li exclaimed, relief washing over him as he landed his Flying Sword and rushed to embrace her.

Qingwu returned the hug tightly, her eyes reflecting the worry that had gnawed at her during the journey.  She pulled back, studying his face.  "Tell me the plan again," she requested, her voice firm.

Wang Li detailed the trap they\'d meticulously crafted, his voice low and clear.  Qingwu listened intently, her brow furrowed in concentration.  Once he finished, a determined glint entered her eyes.  "It\'s risky," she acknowledged, "but it\'s our only shot."

Without further delay, she retrieved a communication talisman engraved with the Xia Family crest.

"Someone loyal to the Xia Family spotted Wang Li and Xiangyi near Iron Willow Stronghold," she spoke directly into the talisman, her voice clear and concise.  The talisman pulsed before shooting off into the distance, carrying its message towards Ye Fan.

Once the communication talisman was sent, Qingwu and the Xia Family guards followed Wang Li\'s instructions, disappearing behind the waterfall. Only the cascading water and the damp air remained, concealing the hidden observer.

Wang Li and Xiangyi retreated to a nearby cave, their hearts pounding with nervous anticipation.  They had set the bait. All that remained was to see if Ye Fan would take it.

The talisman zipped across the vast expanse, finally reaching its destination – the serene courtyard within the Hundred Flower Sect.

The communication talisman from Qingwu arrived with a soft chime, interrupting Ye Fan\'s meditation session. A thrill shot through him, blossoming in his chest like a hundred flowers blooming at once. Could it be? Had his careful campaign of painting Wang Li and Xiangyi as demonic finally paid off?

Had Qingwu finally seen the truth and chosen to side with him?

With trembling fingers, he activated the talisman. Xia Qingwu\'s voice, sweet and clear, filled the room. "...someone loyal to the Xia Family spotted Wang Li and Xiangyi near the Iron Willow Stronghold region."

Ye Fan\'s mind raced. Iron Willow Stronghold – a neutral territory, perfect for them to lay low, maybe even rebuild a semblance of normalcy. It all made sense. A surge of pride washed over him. His relentless pursuit had driven them to such desperation.

He didn\'t doubt the message for a second. After all, why would Qingwu shield known demonic cultivators? This was his opportunity, a chance to solidify his position as the righteous hero. A triumphant grin spread across his face.

"Iron Willow Stronghold," he muttered, his voice laced with a steely resolve.  "Time to end this charade."  Taking off with a burst of wind, he sped towards the neutral city, a whirlwind of righteous fury trailing behind him.

Meanwhile, back near Iron Willow Stronghold, Wang Li and Xiangyi waited with bated breath. The tension was thick enough to chew on. Xiangyi nervously gnawed on her lip, her gaze flitting across the open clearing. "Think he\'ll come?" she whispered, the question echoing their shared anxiety.

Wang Li wrapped an arm around her, his touch a source of comfort. "He will," he said with a steely glint in his eyes. "Ye Fan\'s arrogance is his biggest weakness. He can\'t resist a chance to crush us."

A wry smile spread across Xiangyi\'s face. "Good. Let him overestimate himself.  It\'ll be his downfall."

They lapsed into a tense silence, the only sounds the rustling of leaves and the distant chatter from the city. Time seemed to stretch into an eternity, each tick of the mental clock amplifying their anticipation.

Suddenly, a sharp cry pierced the air, a bird startled by a burst of approaching energy. Wang Li and Xiangyi exchanged glances, their eyes widening with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.

"He\'s here," Wang Li said, his voice low and urgent. "Let\'s go."

They emerged from their hiding spot, a flurry of movement and vibrant energy. Wang Li, a whirlwind of swordsmanship, unleashed a barrage of taunts. "Well, well, well, look who it is!" he boomed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "The mighty Ye Fan, gracing us with his righteous presence."

Ye Fan\'s gaze snapped towards them, a scowl replacing his initial confusion.  "Wang Li, Xiangyi," he growled.  "So you decided to hole up in a neutral zone like scared rats?"

Xiangyi joined in the playful mocking tone, "Hardly, Ye Fan. We just figured it would be better to fight you here where no innocent bystanders get caught in the crossfire."

Ye Fan, his face contorting into a mask of rage, ignored their taunts. He scanned the clearing, searching for them. But something was off. The location, the open terrain, it felt…too perfect. His gaze fell upon an inconspicuous waterfall, the source of a faint background noise he recognized from the communication talisman.

A chilling realization dawned on him. This was a trap. Xia Qingwu wasn\'t helping him provide information about them, but rather she was in cahoots with them! This charade was a clever set-up.

Fury boiled within him, but a flicker of caution tempered his anger. Fighting here, facing their combined strength, wasn\'t wise. Escape was the priority.

Wang Li, however, noticed the subtle shift in Ye Fan\'s demeanor, the flicker of his eyes towards the waterfall. It was a dead giveaway.

"Thinking of running away, Ye Fan?" he roared, wasting no time. In a flash, he drew his sword and unleashed a powerful attack – Yin Crescent Slash!

A crescent of pure energy, sharp as a demon\'s claw, ripped through the air towards Ye Fan. Reacting instinctively, Ye Fan summoned his own weapon, a gleaming broadsword, and deflected the attack with a clang. The tremor shook the ground beneath them.

Meanwhile, Xiangyi, having anticipated this turn of events, was already in motion. With a burst of speed, she soared through the air, effectively cutting off Ye Fan\'s escape route. "Thinking you can just waltz in and out?" she mocked, her voice laced with defiance. "Not today, Ye Fan!"

Ye Fan, caught between a rock and a hard place, found himself trapped. He gritted his teeth, a desperate plan forming in his mind. Perhaps, just perhaps, there was a way to turn this situation to his advantage...
