Chapter 341: Identity
Song Jian’s Octagonal Han Sword, which he had taken from the underground ring, had just been casually wiped down. A small bloodstain on the blade was hard to notice unless you took a close look at it.
Furthermore, after being aired overnight, it didn’t smell of blood. However, the fact that the officer managed to pick up on it caught Song Jian off guard.
Upon hearing the male officer, the female policewoman who was about to follow Song Jian out also immediately became alert, and stepped backward, gripping her waist, ready to pull out her gun.
Startled, Song Jian’s initial instinct was to resist, but his rationality won out. Just as he was thinking of making up a believable excuse, a shout from outside suddenly rang through, “Freeze, don’t run!”
Then came a burst of explosion and gunshots from outside, which shocked the two police officers. They didn’t even care about Song Jian anymore. The female officer instantly pulled out her gun and ran outside, while the male officer, who was guarding the entrance, upon seeing that Song Jian had no intention of running away, hurriedly said, “Stay inside and don’t move!”
With that, the male officer too, sword in hand, rushed out.
Stepping out of the room, Song Jian saw a complete mess downstairs. Two officers lay on the ground. The complex’s gate looked like it had been blasted, with a fraction of it collapsed. Dozens of police officers were pursuing something outside of the complex.
At this moment, nearly everyone from the complex was standing at their doorsteps, watching the commotion, conversations buzzing around. Soon enough, an ambulance drove into the complex. The remaining officers carried their injured comrades onto the ambulance and rushed them to the hospital. With that, all the officers inside the complex were gone.
“That was so dangerous! That guy just jumped so high and landed on the gate with such a force that it collapsed instantly, just like in a movie!”
“Was that guy a superman or something? Bullets couldn’t even hit him, and he
moved so fast…”
“People nowadays dare even to assault police officers. I cannot believe it. He lived with us for so long!”
“Hey, did any of you see who it was? Which house did he come from?”
Despite discussing for a long time, the residents couldn’t figure out who the runaway was. Soon enough, they dispersed and went back to their homes.
Looking at the pool of fresh blood on the ground in the courtyard, a contemplative look crept into Song Jian’s eyes.
“Is this… a case of resisting arrest?” Song Jian thought to himself, “Should I take advantage of this situation to escape? But they’ve already got my information. If I run away now, won’t I be admitting guilt? And then I definitely will be wanted. What should I do?”
The thought made Song Jian feel flustered. Even if he was powerful, once the nation’s machinery was set into motion, he was no more than a mantis trying to halt a speeding train, powerless to fight back.
“Does this mean 1 have to hide for the rest of my life, living without seeing daylight?” Song Jian hesitated for a moment and then quickly came to a decision.
“I can’t run. I must come up with an explanation for the blood stain on the sword…”
Just as Song Jian was thinking about an excuse, he noticed a dark figure moving slightly in the corner of the yard, which soon morphed into a man.
“Wang Dagang?” Song Jian looked at the man, frowning. This man was not living in the apartment complex but was living not far from here. Song Jian had seen him a couple of times casually and even greeted him. He’d even seen him on the street outside the complex a few times while eating breakfast.
Their relationship was more robust than with total strangers but weaker than that with the neighbors;
“What kind of skill is this? It doesn’t look like an invisibility jutsu. Could it be that the police were actually looking for him?” Song Jian wondered to himself. Wang Dagang’s skill was very similar to Song Jian’s Morphing into Dark Cloud, except that he transformed into a shadow. Unless you looked closely, it was challenging to spot him against a dark backdrop.
Wang Dagang, back in his human form, was covered in sweat, and a trace of blood trickled down the corner of his mouth. He had just created a decoy to distract the police officers, then transformed himself into a shadow. All this had consumed much of his mental strength.
Now he needed to get out of here as soon as possible. If the officers who were returning found him, he wouldn’t stand a chance against them;
Just then, Wang Dagang looked up sharply. Song Jian was standing in the corridor looking down expressionlessly. His eyes were fixed on him.
“I’m discovered!” Wang Dagang was shocked, but soon realized Song Jian wasn’t a police officer but just an ordinary resident. He chuckled, making a gesture telling Song Jian to keep quiet.
Song Jian glanced left, then looked back at Wang Dagang with a peculiar look in his eyes.
Wang Dagang was taken aback, finding Song Jian’s gaze strange. Suddenly, as if realizing something, he turned to look in the direction where Song Jian had been looking.
“Think you can run?” A voice called out from the top of a large tree, looking down at Wang Dagang condescendingly. His dress uniform was cloaked in a black robe, billowing in the harsh wind;
Wang Dagang’s face paled, he turned to climb the wall in an attempt to escape. But then a silver glimmer flashed, and a foot-long iron arrow with a piercing whistle plunged into Wang Dagang’s back, nailing him directly to the wall.
Swoosh-
The man in the dress uniform, with his cloak draped over him, jumped down from the tree over ten meters tall. His cloak spread out like a pair of black wings, lowering him gradually;
“Resisting arrest, assaulting a cop. You think you could be invincible because you’ve played in the game world for a few days? Naive!” The officer sneered as he pulled out the handcuffs and cuffed the hands of Wang Dagang, who was still hanging on the wall. He then forcefully pulled out the iron arrow from his back;
With a miserable cry, Wang Dagang became limp and fell to the ground, huffing and puffing heavily. A look of fear crossed his face as he looked at the officer.
“Go back in, it’s not safe here!” Noticing Song Jian standing upstairs watching all of this, the officer frowned and shouted coldly at Song Jian.
A trace of fear appeared on Song Jian’s face. He shrunk his neck back and reentered his house;
“The officer’s skill is so powerful. He must be a professional who’s already been appointed!” With a serious expression, Song Jian returned to his room and thought to himself.
In the real world, you couldn’t view players’ levels and properties, but you could estimate their capabilities based on their skills and power exhibited during fights.
That cop earlier had reduced Wang Dagang to a near-death state in one swift move, indicating his unusual strength. Thinking about this, Song Jian broke out in cold sweat. If he had decided to run away earlier, he would definitely have used his skills. Then, the cop who was watching would have definitely noticed him.
“That was close. They nearly figured out my identity as a player!” Song Jian felt as though there was a huge rock pressing on his chest, causing him to panic.
