Chapter 79: Ch.78 Scheming
Chapter 79: Ch.78 Scheming
Inside the cave, the sound of water dripping echoed clearly in the darkness, symbolizing the passage of time.
Finally, the Sea Queen and Dane were exhausted from their pointless bickering. The two lay on the ground, gasping for breath, and it took them a while to recover. Just as Su Ming predicted, once they realized they couldn\'t harm each other, they were forced to compromise.
Although they didn\'t verbally surrender, the surveillance showed both of them inching toward the door, listening for sounds outside.
Finding no one guarding them, they huffed and puffed as they ran out of the hut and made their way to the beach.
Of course, with Batgirl\'s personality, the entire island was covered in surveillance. She merely swiped her phone a few times, and their every move was visible, with microphones capturing their conversations.
"Great, it\'s an island! Fish-head, what are you waiting for?" Dane leaped up in excitement, clapping his hands and spinning in circles like a 200-pound child. "Go back home and get my mom to rescue us! There\'s an evil god who wants us to kill each other!"
However, behind him, on the golden beach, the Sea Queen showed no sign of happiness. She clung to a large tree, trembling so much that the strange fruits on it were about to fall off.
Now, it wasn\'t just seeing the ocean that terrified her. Even the sound of the waves crashing against the shore echoed in her ears like thunder. All she wanted was to run far away and never hear the word "sea" again.
"What\'s wrong with you? Hurry up and get in the water!" Dane urged her, his eyes bloodshot, using phrases that had a completely different meaning in Su Ming\'s world.
"No, I can\'t. Let me go!"
The Sea Queen tried to muster her courage, but the blue ocean turned into a slurry of filth and shattered corpses in her eyes. Skeletal fish floated on its surface. The fear toxin had altered her perception so profoundly that she couldn\'t even look at the sea.
Covering her eyes, she ran back into the hut, slamming the door shut.
Dane looked at her retreating back, astonished. He couldn\'t comprehend how a water-breathing, amphibious creature could be afraid of the sea. If it weren\'t for these damned bracelets, he would have flown away long ago. Why rely on a dead fish?
He glanced at the sea. He could swim, but now he only had the stamina of an ordinary person. This vast ocean, with no sense of direction, made it impossible to swim out. He didn\'t want to die.
With no other options, he had to look around aimlessly before returning to the hut, where he and the Sea Queen stared at each other in silence.
That owl-masked person had sealed off all their exits. No one knew where they were. Just as that owl freak had said, they were meant to watch the world be destroyed, powerless to stop it, until they had no choice but to submit to Barbatos.
Dane had no idea who Barbatos was, but from what the owl freak had hinted, it was clear they stood against all living things.
"What\'s wrong with you, anyway?" Dane asked the Sea Queen. He couldn\'t fathom how an amphibian could be afraid of the sea.
"They injected me with something. I can\'t even look at the sea right now." The Sea Queen had calmed down considerably and now felt the safest place on the island was this small, dark hut.
"Is it permanent?" Dane rubbed his hands anxiously. He couldn\'t get rid of the magical restraints, so the only hope was for the Sea Queen to swim for help.
"I don\'t know, but they\'ll definitely keep injecting me. I can\'t resist in this state," the Sea Queen said hopelessly, leaning against the wall, her head hanging low.
"Damn it! Their plan is too well thought out. Are we just supposed to sit here and watch ourselves become slaves to some evil god?"
Dane also collapsed onto the ground in despair. He felt helpless. Just imagining another version of himself attempting to assassinate the queen on Paradise Island made him panic. Although his mother was a powerful warrior, the enemy had magic items that nullified divine power. They had already used two; who knew if there were more?
And as the only two people aware of this, they were trapped here, watching helplessly.
As they were at their wit\'s end, the owl-masked figure appeared again, pushing open the door and holding a large leaf covered with various fruits.
With a flick of his wrist, he dumped the fruits onto the ground and sneered, "Eat up, you two worthless fools. The Court of Owls won\'t let you die just yet."
After saying that, he shut the door, and the bright sunlight disappeared from their view once more.
"Is this our prison food? Just fruit?" Dane looked at the food on the ground. No wine or meat was almost a form of torture.
The Sea Queen, however, picked up a bunch of grape-like fruit and started eating. Orange juice dripped from her mouth as she spoke, "Even if you want to escape, you need to maintain your strength. Otherwise, when the chance comes, you won\'t have the energy."
Dane thought for a moment, then picked up a melon-like fruit, rolling it in his hands, searching for a place to bite into. "Could it be poisoned?"
"If they wanted to kill or torture us, they could\'ve used their fists. Poisoning would be redundant," the Sea Queen said without hesitation. She was a straightforward person, and if she were in their position, with this kind of advantage, poisoning would be unnecessary.
Her reasoning was so sound that Dane was left speechless.
With no proper tools, he ended up using his elbow to smash the melon open, revealing white flesh inside. Despite its unappealing appearance, they had to eat. Otherwise, when the opportunity came, they wouldn\'t have the strength to escape.
Dinosaur Island\'s flora and fauna still maintained a prehistoric Jurassic environment. Even as prisoners, once they overcame their mental barriers, they couldn\'t get enough of the fruit.
They had only one thought in their minds:
Delicious.
If Su Ming knew about this, he would be delighted. Delicious was good. It meant his preparations weren\'t in vain.
Watching the surveillance feed, where the two had devoured the fruit clean and were lying on the ground, burping contentedly, Su Ming and Bryce exchanged a glance, knowing that the second part of their plan had succeeded.
After injecting the fear toxin into the Sea Queen, Barry hadn\'t thrown away the syringe. The special alloy needle was expensive, and even if it was stolen, it shouldn\'t go to waste. Su Ming washed the syringe, filled it with the charm toxin he got from Poison Ivy, and, like some shady merchant he knew, injected every single piece of fruit.
It was a pity they were on Dinosaur Island. Otherwise, he would have liked to show these DC characters what water-injected chicken and pork were like. Even so, Barry was left speechless, never imagining such a tactic existed.
Now, in the hut, as the charm toxin took effect, things started to take a more ambiguous turn.
