Chapter 23: Beast Control Ring: Taming the Wolf King
Chapter 23: Beast Control Ring: Taming the Wolf King
Though the early Spirit Communion Stage was far inferior to Xu Hei, he still stopped cautiously, coiling into a defensive stance and concealing his aura.
The demonic wolf halted nearby, not rushing forward recklessly.
Its eyes gleamed like lightning, its fur was half black and half white, and a crescent moon mark adorned its forehead.
This was a Moon Cang Wolf, a mutation in the process of a wolf becoming a demon.
"Roar!" The demonic wolf let out a low growl.
The wolf pack behind it immediately scattered, encircling the area from a distance, possibly to prevent Xu Hei from escaping or to guard against third-party interference.
"They even know how to coordinate."
Seeing this, Xu Hei felt a sudden pang of envy. The wolf king hesitated no longer and lunged at Xu Hei, aiming to bite him.
Xu Hei sidestepped swiftly, noticing the crescent moon mark on the wolf king's forehead flickering as it raised its claws to strike, sharp and fierce.
In the void ahead, a pair of phantom wolf fangs appeared, snapping towards him from both sides.
"It can use demonic spells?"
Xu Hei was slightly taken aback. Demonic beasts capable of using spells usually had high intelligence, a rare sight.
However, Xu Hei's cultivation was a notch higher. He dodged swiftly as the wolf king spewed a mouthful of flames, covering a wide area.
"Fire!"
Xu Hei's eyes lit up.
He was now certain that the red vine enhanced fire-based spells.
Not wanting to get entangled, Xu Hei braved the flames, flashing beneath the wolf king's belly and headbutting upwards.
"Thud!"
Xu Hei's head struck the wolf king's stomach hard, sending it flying several meters into the air, spewing blood and crashing to the ground with a wretched cry.
At this moment, the wolf king's eyes showed fear. Like a dog with its tail between its legs, it turned to flee.
This wolf had high intelligence and realized Xu Hei was not to be trifled with, decisively choosing to escape.
The wolf pack, seeing their leader flee, howled mournfully and scattered like lost dogs.
"Trying to escape?"
Xu Hei spat out a golden ring—the Beast Control Ring.
The ring shot out like lightning, transforming into a stream of light, hovering above the wolf king's head, and quickly enlarging.
"Bind!"
Xu Hei activated his divine sense, and the ring instantly fell, locking around the wolf king's neck, shrinking to secure it tightly.
"Awooo!"
The wolf king rolled on the ground, howling in pain.
Xu Hei felt a strange sensation; his divine sense, through the Beast Control Ring, permeated the wolf king's entire body, making him feel he could control every inch of it with a mere thought.
"Come here."
Xu Hei willed it, testing his control.
The wolf king struggled to stand, unable to resist, and walked over to Xu Hei.
"Bow down, lie down." Xu Hei commanded again.
The wolf king immediately bowed and lay down, eyes filled with humiliation and deep fear.
Xu Hei's divine sense moved, issuing more commands.
The wolf king performed various bizarre actions—standing up and walking like a human, crawling like a snake, or barking like a dog.
Under divine sense control, the wolf king could perform any action.
Initially, its eyes were filled with anger and shame, but gradually, it sank into deep fear, showing a pleading look and whimpering for mercy.
"This Beast Control Ring is quite interesting!" Xu Hei's heart surged.
Previously, the demonic beasts he encountered were either accidentally killed by him or slain by humans.
But this wolf king was captured alive.
If it posed a threat to Xu Hei, he would kill it without hesitation, but this wolf was clearly harmless now.
Moreover, it had its value.
"Summon your pack back." Xu Hei ordered.
The wolf king understood and howled.
Soon, the fleeing wolf pack returned, appearing all around.
Because of Xu Hei's presence, they dared not approach, eyes filled with fear, hiding behind the wolf king.
"Guard the area within a five-mile radius, and forbid any creature from entering."
Xu Hei commanded, and the wolf king immediately complied, arranging the pack to guard various positions.
Then, Xu Hei approached the Earth Flame Vine, inhaling its scent. A surge of scorching energy entered his body, raising his temperature.
This was pure fire-based spiritual qi.
Xu Hei's eyes gleamed with excitement. Besides the Serpent Fruit tree branch, he hadn't consumed any spirit medicine.
Human pills were too mild, easy to absorb but lacking this potent medicinal property.
Xu Hei tore off a small piece and swallowed it.
"…" The wolf king was dumbfounded.
This scorching spirit medicine, it only dared to nibble on the surface slowly. This snake swallowed a large piece in one go, unafraid of being burned alive?
"Boom!"
The scorching energy rampaged within Xu Hei, causing a burning sensation in his meridians.
He was certain that if a human consumed even a tiny bit, they would be burned alive instantly. Even the demonic wolf wouldn't dare consume too much.
"Demon God Cauldron, refine it!"
Xu Hei activated the Demon God Cauldron, absorbing the small piece of vine and slowly refining it.
During this process, Xu Hei's body heated up rapidly, becoming scorching hot like a furnace, and his cultivation level rose.
The wolf king watched intently, hoping Xu Hei would be burned to death.
But as time passed, Xu Hei not only survived but grew stronger, leaving the wolf king in shock.
After half a day, Xu Hei finished refining the piece of vine.
Xu Hei exhaled a breath of hot air, looked at a nearby rock, and with a thought, opened his mouth, casting the Fireball Technique.
"Boom!!"
A massive flame spewed from his mouth, burning the rock into molten lava.
The wolf king's eyes nearly popped out.
Is this a snake? This is a monster!
It tried spitting a small flame, only managing to scorch the ground slightly, nowhere near the same temperature.
"Indeed, it enhances the Fireball Technique and improves my cultivation. This vine is quite long; I'll eat another piece." Xu Hei tore off another piece and swallowed it.
Seeing Xu Hei consume more vine, the wolf king completely abandoned any thoughts of resistance. This snake's strength far exceeded its imagination.
