Chapter 423: 417 My Daughter
Chapter 423: 417 My Daughter
However, Finn understood. Just like how Amelia Lee dealt with her relationships, Kay and Cypress were, after all, father and daughter who shared a blood bond that couldn’t be denied, no matter how reluctant Kay might be to acknowledge it. If this continued, Finn was sure that when Cypress passed away years from now, Kay would undoubtedly feel regret. He didn’t want Kay to spend her later life in regret.
Time can change everything, so can death. No matter how much hatred two people might share, the loss of either one would inevitably plant a seed of regret in the other, spoken or otherwise.
“Kay,” Finn interrupted Kay again, “let me talk to him. He just wants to get to know me. He doesn’t mean any harm, don’t worry.” Finn gently patted Kay’s hand while speaking softly.
After a moment, Kay finally said quietly, “Alright.” After that, she changed direction and walked towards where Amelia was.
Watching Kay’s retreating figure, Cypress’s heart filled with jealousy. She was his daughter yet listened to another man while treating him, her own father, like an enemy. This was a painful feeling. Cypress remained silent for a long time before saying, “Come with me.”
Finn smiled, straightened his clothes and followed Cypress. “Finn,” Kay couldn’t help but call again.
Finn glanced back and gave Kay a reassuring look before following Cypress to another part of the courtyard. The old man’s yard was quite large, with about three to four acres of land, where he usually planted crops and parked his vehicles, thus, making the entire courtyard quite extensive.
Finn walked with Cypress under a large willow tree at one corner of the courtyard. Here, a stone table with a chessboard carved on its surface was present. It seemed to be the place where the old man took his leisure time to play chess.
Cypress didn’t sit, so Finn didn’t either. Turning around, Cypress looked at Finn seriously and said, “Despite her feelings towards me, Kay is still my daughter. I’m afraid our family wealth isn’t an easy thing for you to take.”
“If you just called me over to say this, I have to say that, I have confidence in this matter,” Finn glanced at Cypress calmly.
Cypress looked at Finn somewhat unexpectedly. Finn’s attitude had completely taken him by surprise. He noticed Finn’s initial nervousness in front of the elder, but now, Finn’s demeanor in his presence not only exhibited calm but also an indescribable confidence. Cypress couldn’t understand where this confidence stemmed from.
But Finn’s attitude and tone left him with a strange feeling. However, this feeling quickly passed. Cypress gave Finn a cold look and said, “I don’t know why you got close to my daughter. And, frankly, I don’t care how the two of you met. However, if you are thinking of marrying her, I will object.”
“For what reason?” Finn raised an eyebrow, then spoke again after thinking, “And I think Kay might not necessarily listen to you. Moreover, if you object, she might even be more likely to go against your wishes.”
“You!” A surge of anger welled up inside Cypress. He glared at Finn and was about to speak, but after uttering a single word, he stopped. Then he said severely, “Young man, Kay probably didn’t tell you about my status, did she?”
“Yes, she did. Jinchen Land and Sea Property Development Co., Ltd., market value of 13 billion Flame Nation coins, and you own sixty-seven percent of the company’s shares. That means you have an approximate fortune of 10 billion. Am I correct?” Finn responded.
This time, Cypress was genuinely surprised. Looking at Finn, he didn’t know where this young man’s confidence was coming from. Knowing that he had such a high net worth, is he still so confident? Or have youngsters today become so arrogant and ignorant?
“Since you already know, I won’t waste time explaining. Although Kay is my ex-wife’s child, she is still my daughter. My wealth will indeed be partly hers in the future. Even without my assets, Kay’s current income would be quite considerable. So tell me, how much do you think you need to earn to provide for her? To give her a better life? You speak well, but don’t tell me that you believe love is more important than bread in this world,” Cypress spoke indifferently while looking at Finn.
“I’ve never thought so. Any love is based on material conditions. If you can’t even fill your stomach, no one will think about love.” Finn nodded, “But I have confidence. If I love her, I believe I can give her a comfortable life.”
“Alright, then tell me. How much money do you have now? You mentioned that you have a company, so tell me, what’s its market value?” Cypress asked brusquely.
Finn instinctively touched his nose. His father-in-law may have a poor relationship with Kay, but still, he was technically his father-in-law. Contradicting him, wouldn’t that be rude? The fact that Cypress didn’t recognize him didn’t surprise Finn. Even though he was a well-known figure, not everyone would know what he looked like.
For example, although everyone knew ‘Mr. M’ by name, not everyone knew his face. Even with a considerable online presence, the photos could be quite different from reality. If you encountered him on the street, you might not recognize him. Only celebrities, who have high exposure rates and photos available online, can be recognized by their devoted fans.
However, the reality was that for most people, even if they watch TV or surf the internet daily and see many celebrities, unless they’re ardent fans, they probably wouldn’t recognize celebrities if they walked past them, simply because their attention wasn’t specifically focused on them.
