Chapter 424: 418: Big Shot

“In this regard, it’s true. When we go out to eat, she is usually the one who pays,” Finn shrugged, “And oftentimes, I’m just scrounging for a meal.” This was malicious on Finn’s part, although it’s not exactly false. For example, if he said that he gave the Moon of West Lake restaurant to Kay Lee, then he did give it to her. Hence if Finn goes there to eat, it naturally counts as scrounging.

“I initially thought you are decent, but now it seems, you might not be as great as I thought.” Cypress Davis jeered at Finn.

“Uncle, you might be mistaken. In a relationship, money isn’t the most important factor. Of course, the money required to ensure a good standard of living is necessary. As for my company’s worth, while it’s not much, it’s currently valued at over a billion. And as the elder said, I’m still young. May I ask, when you were my age, did your company have a net worth of over a billion?” Finn said with a smile.

Over a billion? Cypress Davis was taken aback. In his eyes, if Finn’s company was worth a few millions, it would already be an accomplishment. Over a billion? This figure had significantly exceeded his expectations.

“You’re not just bragging, are you?” Cypress Davis said in disbelief.

“You can ask Kay about it. Though Kay doesn’t get along well with you, she is a person who doesn’t lie,” Finn chuckled.

Finn didn’t continue the conversation with Cypress Davis any further. Some things, when spoken of, aren’t necessarily believed by others, so even though Finn spoke about it, it was another matter altogether whether Cypress Davis chose to believe him or not. However, despite being a tad nervous, Finn wasn’t going to let Cypress Davis mock him endlessly. After all, Finn didn’t really care for Cypress Davis’s mindset anyway.

After stating the scale of his company, Finn turned and left without giving a care to Cypress Davis’s reaction. Even if they were to continue the conversation, unless Finn verified his identity, Cypress Davis would probably still have nothing good to say or flat out refuse to believe him. The way Cypress Davis reacted after Finn verbalized his account was clear evidence to this.

It wasn’t that Finn didn’t want to reveal his identity. But if he did, he might receive special treatment from the Davis Clan, which wasn’t something Finn sought after. As long as the elder approved of him and Kay didn’t care about Cypress Davis’s opinions, it was all good.

Watching Finn abruptly turn and walk away, Cypress Davis was stunned for a moment, followed by a wave of anger. He hadn’t finished speaking and Finn just walked off like that. Did he have any idea which house he had stepped into? Once his initial anger faded, Cypress Davis’s resentment seeped in. Maybe Finn’s company was worth over a billion, but Cypress had to consider how much of the company actually belonged to him. Cypress Davis naturally wouldn’t think that the entire company belonged to Finn alone. If you were just a small shareholder, how much would your assets amount to?

Regardless of what was going on, Finn’s attitude had greatly irked Cypress Davis. As he watched Finn’s retreating silhouette, Cypress Davis snorted coldly after a long silence, seething the entire time as he retreated inside.

“You… are you okay?” Seeing Finn return, Kay Lee asked with a hint of concern. Although her attitude toward Cypress Davis was awful, she still understood that he was her father, and there was no way Finn could be completely indifferent to his opinion, Kay Lee was now afraid that Cypress Davis would interfere in her marriage and give Finn a hard time. She knew that, while Finn treated her well, it didn’t mean he had a good temper.

“I’m fine. Uncle didn’t give me a hard time, he just asked about my situation and let me return,” Finn replied with a smile.

Kay Lee opened her mouth to speak but in the end said nothing. She had already seen the unhappy look on Cypress Davis’s face earlier, which didn’t seem like everything was okay. However, if Finn wasn’t going to say anything, then she didn’t feel right asking. But with a sigh, Amelia Lee, standing nearby, softly said, “Finn, if anything was disagreeable, please put up with it. After all, he’s Kay’s father and he’s looking out for her.”

“I understand, auntie,” Finn said with a nod and a smile.

“Mom, if he really cared about me, he wouldn’t have abandoned us all those years ago. I grew up without a father, is that him caring for me?” Kay Lee fired back, her face turning sour.

“Alright, alright, let’s not talk about this anymore,” Amelia Lee quickly interjected, patting Kay Lee’s hand. Finn wanted to say something but did not get a chance to interrupt. In terms of this relationship, he felt somewhat powerless. No matter how capable he was, he couldn’t solve these issues, which were knots in Kay Lee’s heart that not just anyone could untie.

Normally Kay Lee would never dare to contradict Amelia Lee. However, when the topic of Cypress Davis was brought up, she would become an angry little tiger, not sparing anyone. It seemed like Cypress Davis had really left a deep impression in Kay Lee’s heart. However, whether this impression could be improved in her lifetime was still an unknown.

The elder’s old comrades soon left; it seemed like they still held some public office and hadn’t completely retired. As for whether this was true or not, Finn didn’t ask. At such an age, they should have retired. Amelia Lee and the others didn’t have a chance to ask either, so naturally, Finn, as an outsider, didn’t have the chance to do so. But the atmosphere was really strange; the elder’s children formed one circle, and Kay Lee, Amelia Lee, and Finn comprised another.

If it weren’t for the elder’s enormous care and attention toward Amelia Lee and her daughter, the other members of the Davis Clan would probably not even bother to smile. However, their current behavior was deemed acceptable; even when the elder was not present, they didn’t converse much, but when they met, they’d still offer a smile. Just that, behind closed doors, their conversations were less than friendly.

The elder, obviously, was not aware of this atmosphere. Being so old, he didn’t have the time to pay attention to so many things. Besides, everyone seemed to have come to an understanding and wouldn’t act this way in front of the elder.

“It’s really embarrassing you had to see that,” Amelia Lee said with a bitter smile.

“Auntie, you’re taking it too seriously. Every family has its own complications. I can understand,” Finn said sincerely.

“Hmm, if it weren’t for the elder, Kay and I would probably have died on the streets. So, I must repay this favor. I’m an orphan, and the elder regarded me as a daughter. So I see him as a father. Even if Cypress Davis wronged me, I can’t do the same to the elder. I hope you can understand this,” Amelia Lee said, confiding in Finn. This was the first time Finn found out that Amelia Lee was actually an orphan. But because of this, Finn genuinely admired Amelia Lee.
